My new German neighborhood

Today, a friend and I drove to the village/town that I'll soon move to... in search of the 'town area'... I wanted to see if there was a restaurant or a bakery in the area. German bread is awesome! While driving around we decided to go north to see where a particular road led us.

Within a quarter of a mile- we were suddenly in a farm area of sweeping hillsides. Wheat and corn fields- some ready for harvest, some that had already been harvested, and some of the fields were plowed under ready for their winter's rest.

This is my village from a distance.

AND guess what else is there?

Yes, that is a castle.

I agree! After living in a crowded city of 16million-- it is so nice to see nature and beautiful landscapes along the roads. I'll have a 15-20 minute commute each way.

The photos here... are walkable from my soon to be new home and that will be a nice outing... (once the unpacking is finished, of course!)

My daughter lived in a small village (Otterberg, I think) over there for a few years. She loved being able to walk from her little apartment to a nearby bakery and pub/eatery, and drug store.

Another thing she noticed there was the difference in how people regard their animals. She said it was not uncommon to see people bring their dogs into the pub. I had always hoped to visit her there, but she moved before we got the chance. :-)

The hotel that I'm staying in- has a restaurant and you do see some people bringing their dogs into the place during lunches and dinners.

I would love that! I'm just nutty enough with my dog that I hate to leave her when we go out. I often tell my husband, "if we were in Germany, we could take Leyna (our Min Pin) to dinner with us!". ;-Þ

I'm in Bavaria... near the town of Grafenwohr. *The town that I'm moving to- doesn't show up on maps... bummer.
